Give a chinch an inch &
they will take your yard!

As the weather gets warmer, so starts the problems with your lawn.  We are getting into Chinch Bug season, says Wayne Levesque, owner of All Seasons Pest Control, and now is the time to treat your lawn for these lawn damaging insects.

The adult Blissus Insularis Barber, more commonly known as chinch bugs, are one-fifth of an inch long and are black with white wings that are folded over their backs.  The insects mate early in the season when the temperature reaches 70 degrees.  The female lays eggs on roots, stems, leaf sheaths, leaves or other protected places.  Eggs are laid over a 2 to 3 week period, with one female laying as many as 500 eggs.  The young chinch bugs (called nymphs) develop into adults in four to six weeks.  Nymphs are yellow upon hatching but soon turn red and have a light colored band across their abdomens.  Chinch bugs do their damage by inserting their slender beaks into the grass and sucking the juices, releasing a toxin which eventually causes the grass to die.

All Seasons Pest Control advises to inspect your lawn on a regular basis during the summer months.  They thrive in “sunny spots”.  To inspect, slowly run your shoe across the edge of the suspicious area.  If chinch bugs are there, they will crawl across your shoe.  Or you can cut the top and bottom off of a coffee can, insert the can about 2 inches into the soil along the edge of the effected area and fill half way with soapy water.  Wait at least 5 minutes.  If chinch bugs are there, they will come up in the water (along with any other insect that may be in your lawn.)

Last year the entire pest control industry saw a major resistance to insecticide treatments, says All Seasons Pest Control. By the time the problem was discovered it was almost too late, the chinch bugs were in the adult stage and were very difficult to control.  By then, the damage was done. We recommend treating early (later spring, early summer) before or while chinch bugs are in the nymph stage and use a systemic long residual insecticide. We have different products to choose from.

The appearance of your lawn affects the appearance of your home and your home is one of the biggest investments you make. All Seasons Pest Control offers a one time lawn treatment to treat your lawn.  They will use a residual insecticide and give you a 30 Day Guarantee.
