Wayne Levesque is a man with a purpose; to find the largest roach in Apopka. Dressed in a roach costume he bought off the internet, Levesque promotes his contest throughout town at everything from Christmas parades to the Taste of Apopka/Business Expo. “People just love me,” when he is in the roach costume, said Levesque. The contest has running the last eight years as a promotion for Levesque’s business, All Seasons Pest Control Inc. The person who brings in the largest roach wins $100.This year the winner was a student at Wekiva High School where an enthusiastic teacher encouraged his science students to enter their finds.
The winning roach this year was a new record, measuring one and three quarters inch long. Levesque’s assessment doesn’t give the public a reason for comfort.“Every year it seems the roaches are getting bigger,” said Levesque. “Something is going out there. I think nature is making a comeback for the Palmetto-type roaches.”If you’re curious, the winner is mounted into a case for display at the All Seasons Pest Control in Apopka. And there’s time to start looking for next year’s winner. |
